Since most people tend to hold their stress in the upper body, chair massage is an ideal way to administer a relaxing massage in a stressful professional environment. An effective massage can be administered in approximately 15 minutes per person, minimizing the impact to the office staff's busy schedule.

Chair massage is performed in a specially designed chair that supports the occupant in a comfortable, forward-reclined position. The chair has platforms that completely support the occupant's arms, legs, chest, and head.

The massage practitioner adjusts these platforms before each massage to provide the optimum support for each occupant. In this position, the occupant can be completely relaxed during the massage.

With the occupant resting comfortably in the chair, the massage practitioner can now administer a relaxing massage to the head, neck, shoulders, back, and arms as needed.

A number of techniques can be employed to help loosen stiff muscles and joints, release accumulated muscular toxins, improve posture, and contribute to a feeling of improved overall wellbeing, resulting in a happier, more motivated employee. Some of these include:

Petrissage - A deep kneading motion intended to help relax stressed muscles. Can be considered deep tissue massage if applied strongly, but typically is applied gently.
Friction - Characterized by rapid rubbing with an open hand to induce warmth and increase blood circulation.
Percussion - Light pounding movement with hands or fists used to loosen tight muscles.
Shiatsu - A technique that utilizes thumb, finger, or elbow pressure to release stress on pressure points.

The techniques employed by the massage practitioner will vary depending on the needs and physical condition of the particular client.
